Tips for responsible pet care

A dog is a big responsibility. They aren't like other pets. They require so much more care and attention from their owners, but on the flip side they give so much back. They are such rewarding animals to own. They are full of love and mischief and there's always a reason to get out for a walk when there's a dog in the house.

Good pet care revolves around these essential elements. First up exercise. Bigger dogs especially need to walk miles everyday. They aren't meant to be kept indoors all day. They are active animals and need to get out for several walks each day. Next up they need love and attention. They can left alone for hours everyday. They are pack animals. Social creatures who love company. Finally they need a good diet. Their dog food needs to contain all the nutrients they need to grow up strong and stay healthy.

Different breeds have very different dietary requirements. There's no such thing as a one size fits all approach to this aspect of pet care. Novice owners should take a trip to a pet store to get advice on what their new dog needs to eat in order to get a balanced diet.

When it comes to dog food each animal is going to need a mix of meat and dry food. It's this combination that gives them the right balance. It's important to watch how much they eat and not to indulge them with excessive treats or foods that are bad for them. It's cruelty rather than kindness.

By seeking out advice and not spoiling their pet, a new owner can construct a balanced diet for their dog that will keep them happy, healthy and full of life. And that's at the heart of being a responsible owner.

Petting a Big Pussycat

There is no limit to the hobbyists' likes, petting and the extent of 'danger' involved in realizing their likes. 

Keeping pets at home is one of the most favourites hobbies. Generally keeping pets is confined to dogs, cats, birds, fish  and non-violent animals like deer and like. But there are people who like to adopt 'dare' petting and keeping dangerous animals and reptiles in their homes, moving about freely. One when I was vising a friend, I suddenly found a big black cobra moving about in his corridor. Appalled and horrified  as anyone would have been, I yelled out loud at my friend about the 'intruder attack.' But my friend just laughed out my scare by telling that the cobra was his pet. Wow!! what a scary pet, I remember to have said.

Now today, I came across a couple keeping a big 'cat' as their favourite pet animal. The big cat is in fact a 27 Stone Royal Bengal Tiger, nicknamed 'Enzo, that  Michael Jamison and his girlfriend Jackie Smit live with in Brakpan, South Africa.

They bought Enzo as a cute nine-week-old cub but a year later he has grown into a hulk after wolfing down 11lb of meat a day. The couple bottle feed their pussycat with milk and when it is time for a nap, Enzo shares either the couple's bed or on the handy chaise lounge.

Well it is pretty dangerous to live with such a big pussycat, which has now grown into a full size tiger  - but the couple find their Enzo a very homely and loving pet, just like some 14 dogs they have as other 'conventional pets.'

So when are you, if a pet enthusiast, going to get a bigger pussycat for your home?

Pet keeping Hobby

In my previous posts, I have added many new hobbies people adopt around the world. Today we will talk of pet keeping as a hobby. Like some of the most favourite hobbies, pet keeping is also one of the widely adopted hobbies around the world. Keeping pets is popular from children to old, and more so in children who find friends in their pets and are almost inseparable once the two get along well.

I once heard one pet hobbyist saying that she loved her pets just like her children – and how right she was, since by and by the tending of pets becomes as dearer and kinder as that of one’s own off springs.  And especially for the reason that the pets once adopted become pet holder and hobbyists’ sole responsibility.

There is no restriction on keeping the kind of animal, bird or fish. People even go petting deadly reptiles like snakes and alligators. I once went to a friend’s home and was almost horror stricken when I found a big black cobra coming towards me – before I could die of horror, my friend realised my plight and laughingly grabbed the monster and put him inside the cage.

Most popular pets however remain dogs, cats, small birds and animals like deer and many forms of fish. You may not be surprised to know that dead-pets keeping is also a hobby for some.
